Difficult to understand and complicated to remedy, the loss of basic life necessities can be isolating, discouraging and embarrassing. Homeless men and women have often lost more than a job. Malnourishment, loss of family and friends, and lack of medical care are only a few of the obstacles surrounding homelessness.

In Los Angeles’ Skid Row neighborhood, the Union Rescue Mission (URM) serves an average of 3,000 warm meals each day to homeless men, women, and children. Providing nightly shelter for almost 1,000 people, URM also offers help scheduling job training and placement, enrolling children in school, securing transitional housing, locating substance abuse programs, and accessing financial aid. URM partners with local universities to provide essential medical and dental care, professional mental health services, and full-time legal aid counseling. This all encompassing approach allows the Union Rescue Mission to provide dignity, hope and restoration.
