In Alaska, winter is both a quiet, white hibernation and a barren and foreboding dark challenge. Shell white showcases the purity, goodness, and illumination famous this time of year. Soot black portrays the mystery and magic of equal acclaim, along with symbolizing the struggle of the natural world. The brisk snow in mountain shadows is tempered with the glow of amber brush, refusing to lay prostrate. This unwillingness to surrender to the elements is just as evident in the show’s characters.
