Colors of Democracy
The founding fathers recognized colors evoke innate response. They duly chose red, white and blue to boast our national emblem, The United States flag in 1777. Five years later, Charles Thompson, then Secretary of the State of the Second Continental Congress, revealed the significance of America’s national colors. Desiring to display the bravery and hardiness with which they fought for and won independence, red was introduced. The passion, strength and valor of red is still revered world-wide. Symbolic of purity and innocence, white also held esteem and hope for the newly liberated nation. The integration of blue completed the pennant by signaling perseverance, justice, and vigilance. The banner for freedom and equality still unfolds under an elect triad of hues: red, white and blue.
