Art Direction in the Third Dimension: Typography
Over the last few years designs began shifting away from the clean, flat text prevalent through most of the 2010’s. Titles opening in vivid 3D then flattening out as camera angles change are evolving into animated virtual realities. 3D forms wield surging appeal with designers and viewers alike. Typography in particular is adding on to artistic, geometric and organic trends with the transforming impact of multiple dimensions.
A nod to both the 80’s and futurism, 3D is optimistic and effervescent; a highly sought headspace in 2021. Key to taking a flat screen to ultra-reality are the use of shadows, textures, animation, changing perspectives, layering and lighting. Any of these adaptations can bring current designs to life in a bold way.
Maximizing the influence of a main title or statement, our 3D type design is equal parts artistic element and messaging. Come alive streaming BallHogg on Netflix, The Little Couple on TLC or Seeking Sister Wife on Amazon Prime Video.
